Dang hormones! one minute i'm about ready to rip someones head off, then the next day I'm all peaceful and zenned out. what the heck? is this what it's like when you are about to turn 44?
Am I in the middle of a full blown midlife crisis?
sometimes I wonder.
I look at all of the products I am buying these days and sure appears so.
everything is all about, anti-this, pro-active that, uplifting, age-defying, free radical including, multi-v, whole grain, organic,
life- altering- something- in- a- bottle.
clearly, I am looking for a miracle.
or in reality, this is MICHIGAN in january, it's what i DO.
SO! today I thought I would share some of my finds with you that I am currently loving this week (and would happily endorse for free!)
because i'm helpful like that, maybe you might be dealing with the same issues and this could be useful information! ;)
So for starters....
since I am feeling all old and tired lately.. (probably because it's like minus 50 degrees outside and my body shrivels up in these temps....
this is the view from my kitchen window)
you would think we live in the great pacific northwest, but no!
So when it's this cold out, my skin has a hard time staying hydrated.
I spend a FORTUNE on skin care products, i buy the cheap stuff, and the expensive stuff like lancome, which you need a mortgage for.
I have found that's working for me lately is this simple stuff that you can buy at the GROCERY store that is amazing!
yes, I am ALLLL about the deep wrinkle cream, but seriously, this stuff is moist, and stays moist. your skin feels nice and hydrated ALLLLL day long!
plus it has 20 SPF which will be helpful in the summer when I am back to being poolside with kids and looking like a leather bag.
now I know what my mother was talking about when she would harp on me about staying out of the sun.
oh well! c'est la vie!
now another nice product I have found, and I am THINKING it may be working, but then again, maybe I am hallucinating, is this eye puff roller.
I am obsessed with my eye bags. technically they are heriditary and you can't do a dang thing for them besides plastic surgery, and I will NEVER go there.....
but this seems to be working?
i roll it on twice a day. hoping for a miracle.
just maybe this is working. makes me feel like I am doing SOMETHING!
Now this week too I have been shaking things up a little bit,
rearranging furniture,
took down the tree (finally) and started buying some grass and putting it around the house. there is just something so sweet and charming about grass, you can buy it at your health food store, it's worth every nickle. it gives you HOPE people. hope that one day soon you will see it again.
for real!
I also have been experimenting with hairstyles.
i put my hair in braids the other day, and i kind of liked it.
at first I am thinking "woman, you are TOOOOO old to be doing that kind of thing, trying to look all young,
"mutton trying to look like lamb", as my friend Molly says.....
but then there is that old woman part of me that says "who the heck CARES!" i'm doing it!
and so day 2 I am sportin' braids, and I don't care! I feel like
the sundance catalog, old style,
got my jeans on, my cowboy boots and my braids and i'm o.k. with that.
That's the great thing about winter, you come up with creative ways to entertain yourself, rearranging your home, cleaning out the pantry or the linen closet, or messing with you hair! :) whoo-hoo!
isn't life exciting over here!?
Now speaking of the pantry, this year I am trying to rid myself of unhealthy things in the fridge, we're moving more towards whole grains, and fruit. it's actually been really delicious, and not too hard to do it either, plus my kids are liking it too, which is great!
SO these are my finds this week that I am digging.
i LOVE the honey crisp apple! it is honestly the most delicious apple I have ever eaten, and not being a big fruit eater, this is a huge milestone that I am actually eating one of these a day. yes, they are that good. even put a dollop of peanut butter on one and you have nice little snack for you or one the kids will eat.
holy crap! do I love this cereal! and there was absolutely NO pun intended there whatsoever!
oh my! yes, I really MUST be getting old if I'm talking about fiber cereals. (if I start talking prunes, can someone please slap me)
but seriously, I could eat this cereal ALLLL day long, mmmmmmmm.
I am loving Plum markets Cabbage soup and salad bar. they have THE best soups, hot and ready to go, if you are always in a rush, like me, and need something healthy, this place is great!
now when I stopped by there this afternoon, I decided to pop in a couple of doors down to Value world. (this place of course is the complete OPPOSITE of the upscale food store)
it's like the salvation army in that it has recycled clothing, and housegoods.
i was hoping to scoop up some more wool sweaters, or blankets to felt for projects, but I ended up walking out of there with 10pairs of PANTS for myself for $27!
now, I don't usually go there for clothes for myself, but shoot!
these are gap pants, eddie bauer chinos, talbots, etc. all in fantastic shape, and for $1.80 a pair, that is crazy not to buy some for yourself. and since i'm buying $50 soup i think it's a bargain!
ha ha ha! seriously, check it out.
if you are like me, and trying to lose the weight you gained over the holidays from strapping on the feedbag and are in between sizes, it's a great way to buy clothes.
one thing that has been helping me keep full for longer, and really works is this water
i really like it, the flavor is nice, and there is something good about it, even though I am not too sure about sucralose.
I don't like chemicals like that. I saw a news special about aspartame, and wow is that stuff bad. so when it comes to artificial sweetners, they are usually a no-no in my book, but this stuff is pretty good.
I will say though that nothing beats the real stuff.
water, plain and simple is always good for you.
here I am drinking it, in my little patch of sun yesterday at the table working on some new things
a little sneak peek into what I am doing lately, and of course it involves hearts! my favorite time of year!
so on that note, I am off to continue to work in the sunshine, and ignore the fact that it's bone chilling outside.
today I am happy and upbeat, and that's all this old gal can ask for!
hope y'all are doing o.k. yourselves!
(it's the braids rubbing off on me! ha ha ha ha!)
xoxoxo
