You can see the little signs here and there that fall is right around the corner, the sun sets just a little earlier, the nights just a tad cooler, and my garden becomes so overgrown it's kind of embarrassing!
It's also the time of year we head up North for the week for the last vacation of the season...because seriously, by this time of the year boy do I need it!
we seriously look forward to this week all year long, because what better way to wrap up the summer than by a lake!
That's the wonderful thing about Michigan....the amazing nature and beauty that surrounds us.
I feel so fortunate to live here. So even though we may be an economically challenged state at the moment, we are a rich state as far as things to do!
So if you are like us and have just a little over a week left before school starts, get out there and check out some of the things to do around here......some of them are just quick little trips...like the one we took this weekend to the outskirts of Detroit in a town called Hamtramck.
Now mind you, this isn't lake living, and most people would think the scenery pretty rough and scary looking, but I like those kinds of things too! I find beauty in decay.
Hamtramck is a town known for their Polish roots, we were fortunate enough to have my Polish friend go with us and tell us all of the wonderful things to eat there......dill pickle soup,
the delicious but incredibly naughty bread spread called SMALEC ZE SKWARECZKAMI, what?! ;) also simple things like pork chops......oh my SO delicious!!
if you go check out the restaurant called Polonia. yum!
I loved hearing her speak her native tongue with the waitresses.
We also hit up the POlish market and bought cucumber salad and pierogies......yum!
Another fun little thing to do here is visit a small little Folk Art installation called the Hamtramck Disneyland......
it's Located in the backyard of an older gentleman who has tons of elaborately built wooden whirly gigs and painted pieces all over in a tiny space. I will admit it was a little strange just walking into his backyard to see it, but it was pretty fascinating!
and a fun cheap thing to do :)
Such a fun little weekend trip!
Now the rest of this week will be spent catching up on cleaning house, doing laundry, and getting ready to head up north for the week for the last remnants of summer before school starts for us on the 7th of September.
enjoying the last little shreds of summer......
watched the movie too....oh yes I did! ;)
look what moved in next to my deck chairs!!!
but I will admit I love the beauty of this yucky creature....
hope you all are enjoying your last little bits.....
I am off to the lake, you will find me here......
exciting things in store!
