WHEW! that went crazy fast! how about you?
I have to say this christmas was a blur.
The Shop was busier than ever, we had a great year surprisingly!
But life moving way too fast as usual.
Parts of me thrives on the activity, the fast-paceness of it all, but then there is a part of me that misses enjoying the little things, savoring the smells, sights and sounds of christmas.
I miss not being able to bake cookies with my daughter, or spend cozy times with my son reading in bed, or driving around town looking at lights. nope, missed all of that.
my husband took the kids by himself, while I was out shopping alone for family, completely rushed and right down to the wire. I hate that part.
SO this week, I am OFF. spending the entire week with my people catching up on all of that.
I have to say starting christmas eve, I felt a big exhale. loving that I could finally relax and take a breather.
Spending time with family and doing the important things like just relaxing and being cozy with my people.
So this will be a LOOONG wrap up of the past week with my family.
tiny pictures of my home decorated for the holidays, voluminous amounts mind you, but I mean TINY portions of my home because seriously, I had NO TIME TO DECORATE like I would have wanted!
plus it's hard to follow up after my friend Molly's house.
she is truly the bomb.
SO here ya go. I little glimpse into my christmas world, minus the piles, because trust me, they are there! :)
conveniently tucked behind the camera! hee hee!
gingey even has a place at the table ;)
two trees, one up stairs, loaded with all sorts of goodies, one tiny one down in the family room, filled with all vintage glass ornaments....
handmade ones from the kids....
and handmade ones from me, the early days....
goofy things like a weathered photo we found stuck inside of a tree when we went to chop down our tree years ago....because doesn't everyone need a picture of Andy Williams on their christmas tree to remember fun times?
yes, we are weird people.
treasured vintage ones....
and cheesy ones like this one from my sister she got from the Jack-in the-box drive thru that i A.D.O.R.E.!
fresh live trees tucked in old milk pails....
with a new house ornament I made last minute out of fabric...
and these sweet little german ornaments I found at HOMEGOODS for $6! holy cow!
that's the bad thing about me shopping at christmas, half the time I buy goods for everyone but then a TON for myself!
like for example....
a peanut pillow. doesn't everyone need one of those?
I know I do!
or a green bracelet....
I also feel the deep need to buy live fresh trees and plants...
and stick them everywhere....
by my kitchen sink.....
in interesting containers....
give them a little plant "jewelry" like a ribbon.
and dress up my old vintage goodies with christmas trim...
because I have ALLLLLL the time in the world.
(i have problems, we've all established that)
decorate with sweet goodies from FRIENDS, you should check out my friend Jenn's sweet house! now SHE can decorate for the Holidays! oh my!
Now The rest of the time was spent with family having a nice christmas eve dinner.....with family from my husband's side...a big traditional production.....
champagne toasts and fine china....
kids dressed to the nines....
sitting at the kids table....cousins LOVING being together
yorkshire pudding MY FAVORITE!!!!
then back to my house on christmas day where the vibe is more casual....the kids still in their jammies, and me with a birds nest for a hairdoo, with my mom and dad and step mom along with Ian and the kids......
a nice brunch with Mimosas flowing.....salad dressing bottles just sitting out in the open. (ignore that faux- pas will you!)
and TONS of food.
i must have circled that table like a vulture just eating all day......ugh!
the kids SO excited to see what Santa brought!
the WII from the spoiling grandparents!
Thankfully I also received the WII-fit! time to work off all of that FOOD. goodness gracious!
can I tell you that I kicked Ian's bootie in WII-boxing?
he's still bitter. ;)
and trust me, my ribs are still killing me from all of that shucking and jiving! it is QUITE the workout! i love it!
Now shortly there after we lost POWER for 8 HOURS!
do you know what that's like for a kid who just received a video game for christmas?
well, surprisingly it wasn;t too bad! he spent the rest of the day buuilding Legos, and miss Fiona was painting by candlelight.
I re-heated chinese food on the GRILL! isn;t that funny?
it was actually quite nice!
Then come sunday, (yesterday)
we lost power AGAIN! this time for 32 hours.
not so fun.
we actually spent the day like nomads, went out for breakfast, then headed to Detroit to the D.I.A. (the Art museum) which was phenomenal!
we saw Degas, and Renoirs, Van goghs, and contemporary painting from many many artists like warhols, and Basquiats..... it was very inspiring! we wrapped up the day at ZIngerman's roadhouse for dinner and a movie at my moms.
we came home to a 46 degree household and curled up under tons of blankets for our long winter nap.
all in all a whirlwind of a week.
So here I am back to the present day....
just found out the power is back on at my house, so I am heading back home.
time to clean up and gear up for this weeks New years Eve party at my house.....thankful I can run the vaccuum again.
I hope ALL of you out there had a wonderful Holiday celebration with friends and family, and thankyou for taking the time to peek in on me, and to help ME have a wonderful year!
I look forward to seeing what you all will be creating this year, and what this year will bring for all of us!
I myself am thinking positively!
I am thinking it will be a great 2009, hope you do too!
