well I peeled myself away from guitar hero for one minute to do a little blog post.....figured I best check in since it's been awhile.
Hope you all are having a ball and enjoying time with your families.
We have had a wonderful week off, just the 4 of us, sleeping in late, staying up till the wee hours of the morning, visiting with family and relatives everyday.
I managed to actually not have to cook one single meal this week. that in itself was fantastic!
To start things off We had a great christmas eve with family, My husband Ian is the youngest of 4 boys, so we had all but one of the brothers and their families together to celebrate that night.
My husband's mother and father are from England and moved to the states in the late '60's.....so their Holiday celebrations are steeped in tradition with elegant
table settings, fine china and English fare.
We have the best meal every year, one that I fantasize about all year long.....
Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. oh mY!
really, it's the Yorshire Pudding I think about.....alot.
it's not really pudding, it's more of a bread-type thing. crusty on the outside and moist in the middle.
hard to describe but amazing to taste.
give me carbs any day and I am a happy-camper!
The family all gathers here, little ones,
brand new ones.....
and older ones we love dearly
everybody gathering and having a great time
A nice big family, we had 17 of us this year!
I feel so fortunate to be able to be a part of this family, and have my children grow up with these traditions....
something I really didn't have much of when I was a child. now don't get me wrong, I had a wonderful childhood, We just didn't have grandparents, So it was just different. more casual.
It's great we can offer our children both of these worlds, because on Christmas Day
I host a brunch at my house with my family, my mom and dad and my stepmother.
here's my table, if you look closely you could probably still see the wrinkles in the tablecloth.
I usually get up and throw a quiche into the oven and crack open the bottles of champagne for Mimosas!
nothing fancy here, sometimes I may still even be in my jammies with major bed-head. and it's O.K.
the children wait patiently until they can't stand it anymore and they rip through piles of gifts from generous family members.
we spend the day watching them play with their new toys and trashing the house, and again, it's all o.k., we are on vacation-mode.
I honestly need a vacation from my vacation, funny how all that downtime can be exhausting! I am POOPED.
we had our last christmas celebration on Friday with my husband's OTHER brother that couldn't be with us on christmas eve, then last night the whole Thursby family went out for an Italian dinner on the town.
tonight we are staying in, getting the kids down early and watching a movie, nice and relaxing. easy-peasy.
Well, I am sure I have bored you enough with our family run-down, I hope all of you have had a great time
and have managed to get in some down-time for yourselves!
I am off to get back to my current addiction..... Guitar hero, my son received it for christmas, and it's all Ian and I want to do, we have been having little guitar battles and playoffs....yes, we have a problem.
wish me luck, tonight I am out to win.
